ARPA-funded Wi-Fi Project Delivers Digital Equity to Housing Authority Residents

Beginning this fall and into next year, a small but powerful change will take place inside 355 homes in six Housing Authority of Champaign County properties throughout Urbana and Champaign. Residents won’t really be able to see this change. But once it comes, it can help transform families in so many ways, unlocking new educational opportunities, breaking down healthcare barriers, and unleashing new employment prospects.

New Affordable Fiber Internet Services Available in Champaign-Urbana Through Historic Open Access Arrangement

Residents across the cities of Champaign and Urbana now have access to new affordable fiber internet services through an innovative—and historic—open access arrangement. Volo Internet + Tech (Volo), an Urbana-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) serving Champaign County’s businesses and residents, now provides gigabit fiber services using the fiber broadband network constructed by the nonprofit organization, UC2B (http://uc2b.net).

Free Wi-Fi In Downtown Urbana, Blair Park

(Champaign, Illinois) --// Visitors, shoppers and business owners now have access to free wireless Internet access throughout much of the central business district of Urbana and in Blair Park. Volo Broadband is providing the service, with the approval of the Urbana Park District and the City of Urbana.

“Today’s smart devices depend on robust connectivity like this. We’re proud to help make the downtown area and parks more modern spaces for living, working, and playing,” said Peter Folk, CEO of Volo Broadband, the locally-owned company that is providing the new service.

Super-fast Internet, phone in CU

Locally-owned Volo Broadband announced today the expansion of their phone and super-fast Internet services, with Internet speeds up to 1000 megabits per second. Volo’s services lead the nation in price and performance, with special rates in Champaign County Housing Authority buildings as part of Volo’s Digital Equality Initiative. Super-fast Internet is now available to thousands of homes, apartments, and businesses on the fiber-based UC2B network in Champaign and Urbana. The new phone service is available throughout Central Illinois to all residents, regardless of Internet provider.

Volo Broadband Releases Digital Water Gigabit Fiber, Nation's First Sub-$30 Gigabit Service

Volo Broadband will host a "ribbon cutting" ceremony and public demonstration of its Digital Water fiber broadband services, 3-6pm 7/27/2013 at the Thomasboro Fire Station (101 N Church St., Thomasboro, IL). Volo Broadband Activates First UC2B Customer

Volo Broadband Completes First Phase of Upgrade Plan
